Gmail for iOS Fixed, Google Says

…Google Claims Gmail for iOS much Better Then Before, Reviews Still Critical…

Two weeks  after releasing the first version of gmail natively for the iOS platform, google claims that the next runner-up in versions is much better than before. Let’s take a look at what they’ve added.

  1. 1.       Sending and receiving atatchemtns through the app
  2. 2.       2. Push Notifications now function with device
  3. 3.        You can now manage items and label them using gmail’s labels feature.

Even though Google claims that the app has been fixed, many customer reviews say quite the contrary. Many customers still say that the app is not native and, in the words of one customer, an imbedded browser rapped in a native shell. Looks as though Google is going to have to try again. There are still two features that make the app not even useful over apple’s mail app for iOS. These are:

  1. 1.       Lack of support for multiple accounts. Most universities utilize google apps, so you’re bound to have more than one gmail account.
  2. 2.        Lack of support for the notification center in iOS 5. This feature would make Google one up over Apple’s mail app.

Therefore, despite Google’s claims, gmail for iOS is  in fact better, but is no where where it needs to be to be a truly quality app. I would not consider using it over the standard mail app in iOS.
